The Polish Academy of Arts and Science has in its gift the Anna (née Dyaczyńska) and Zbigniew Herman Scholarships for research in the fields of anaesthetics or pharmacology at leading scientific centres – primarily in the USA.

The scholarship fund was established at the Polish Academy of Arts and Science from assets derived from the bequests of prof. Zbigniew Herman and his wife, prof. Anna Dyaczyńska-Herman.

According to the wishes of the testators, the scholarship is open to doctors who are citizens of the Republic of Poland, are no more than twenty-eight years of age on the date of application and are employed in an academic capacity at Polish medical universities or medical scientific institutes. The scholarship will be awarded alternately to doctors working academically and specialising in anaesthetics and intensive care or in clinical pharmacology.

Scholarships are distributed by the Scholarship Committee at the Polish Academy of Sciences, which consists of the director of PAU Faculty V Medicine, three PAU members belonging to Faculty V and the PAU secretary general. The scholarships are awarded every few years at indefinite intervals.
