The Lanckoronski Foundation Scholarship

On 23th October 1995, the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences signed an agreement with the Lanckoroński Foundation, in result of which the Foundation forwarded to the PAU the matter of their scholarships being awarded yearly, for many years now, to Polish humanists for scientific research abroad. The scholarship is called "The Lanckoroński Foundation Scholarship". The goal of the scholarships is to support Polish scholars in their scientific research, helping to collect materials in foreign academic centres, and to bind and broaden scientific relationships.

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must be of Polish heritage and have their graduate degree in one of the following areas: archeology, history (research works concerning subjects since 1939), art history, classical philology and philosophy (history of philosophy). The scholarships are being awarded for one-month up to three-month scientific trips to Rome, London and Vienna, and sometimes also to other European scientific centres.

The scholarships are being awarded accordingly with a competition procedure by the Commission consisted of two PAU members, representatives of five Universities appointed by the Rectors (Jagiellonian University, Warsaw University, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Mikołaj Kopernik University in Toruń, Wrocław University) and the Commission Secretary appointed by PAU.

Applications are being collected between February and May of each year. The Commission meets once a year (in the middle of June) to consider the applications and take the decisions about the scholarships awarded for the incoming year. Every candidate is informed about the results of Commission's work in a written form.

Further details about the scholarship procedures are available in Polish here.
